I’m researching info on the transfer bridges at Greenville yard, Jersey CIty, NJ for an HO model of the structure. A transfer bridge, also referred to as a float bridge, is used to move railcars on and off carfloats, barges designed to carry railcars.
I’ve found a few websites with photos, but most seem to be long shots. Close-ups would be very helpful, as would plans or drawings. Any info would be most appreciated.
The California State Railroad Museum recently re-did their transfer table in the old Southern Pacific Sacramento Shops–I have some photos but haven’t scanned them yet…stand by and I’ll have some for you in a day or so.
whoops! You said “transfer bridge” not “transfer table”… You might try checking out the Sacramento Northern homepage–the SN featured a ferry across Suisun Bay (the only electric interurban to do so) that docked via transfer bridges over the shallow tidal flats at Chipps…here’s a link:
