seeking transfer bridge info

Hi, all…

I’m researching info on the transfer bridges at Greenville yard, Jersey CIty, NJ for an HO model of the structure. A transfer bridge, also referred to as a float bridge, is used to move railcars on and off carfloats, barges designed to carry railcars.

I’ve found a few websites with photos, but most seem to be long shots. Close-ups would be very helpful, as would plans or drawings. Any info would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any and all info.

Best Regards,

Bruce J.

The California State Railroad Museum recently re-did their transfer table in the old Southern Pacific Sacramento Shops–I have some photos but haven’t scanned them yet…stand by and I’ll have some for you in a day or so.

whoops! You said “transfer bridge” not “transfer table”… You might try checking out the Sacramento Northern homepage–the SN featured a ferry across Suisun Bay (the only electric interurban to do so) that docked via transfer bridges over the shallow tidal flats at Chipps…here’s a link:
