Seen in Appleton, WI

Good Morning;

I just spotted an unusual car going through Appleton, WI this morning (9:50) It was on the Stevens Point to Green Bay train. It was a brown car with gold stripes (I was not in a good viewing position to get a lot of detail [oops] ) and had a exhaust muffler on the top of the car. It was numbered AC 49. It had “Canada” and “Tracks of the Bear” written on the side. Can’t give more details, sorry. [sigh]

The big question for me is, what was this car??

Sounds like an Algoma Central car of some sort. I’m not familiar with the 49, but from your description with a exahust muffler, could it possibly a Power car for the passenger trains?

Noah

could it have been a slug??

Thanks, but no, it wasn’t a slug, I was up in GB this afternoon, and I could see it several tracks back into the yard, and it is mostly silver, with the brown and gold stripe. So I went to the Algoma Central web site when I was home, and the moto is “Experience the tracks of the black bear”, and it matches the paint of Algoma Central, soooooo, if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck…must be Algoma Central[:-^][swg]

Thanks Noah for putting me onto the Algoma Central.

Thanks again.

Jared

I wonder if it is a steam heater car. The Algoma Central passenger trains needed more heat than an F unit could provide in the depths of winter.

Seems the AC has been getting a few HEP cars lately…Replacing outdated equipment up there.

They got one a few years ago off the Ski Train, and today is their #78

There would be no reason for a slug to have a muffler, they have no combustion engines.

wow, thats right i forgot about that thanks for the catch i was just tired
