I want to sell a loco so I need to register as a seller even though I am already registered as a buyer. Ebay ( or the site posing as ebay) wants my credit card number and the 3 digit code number. This seems fishy to me. Is it normal to let this information out to be a seller?
Yes, it is. They wan’t your CC number to charge it with seller fees.
Sorry, but yes it is part of the process… I’ve been a buyer/seller for about five years now, and was just as leery as you are about giving out my debit card info, but so far so good.

This may sound a little off-handed, but it worked for me …
I signed up to buy / sell on ebay three years ago. I signed up with my credit card information and assigned a bank account to my profile (paypal) in which I only keep a minimal dollar value - usually no more than $50 from which I pay my fees and manage my Paypal payments. When I receive my paypal payments they are deposited to that account from which I transfer them myself to another account which paypal has no access to.
As for the credit card, a month after I got signed up and verified, I called the bank and reported my card was stolen, to which they cancelled that card and issued me a new one - new number as well. I’ve never been in arrears on paying any of my fees so ebay has not needed to access my credit card in order to cover a non-payment. The credit card they have on file does not exist, but it got me in the door, and since they have not needed to have the access to it to pay my fees, they still assume it’s legit.
Obviously not a legit way to do things, but at least I have the comfort of knowing even if someone DOES access my credit card information, nothing can be done with it as it has been cancelled by the bank anyway !!!
Mark.
Do I get a reward for reporting you to Ebay?[;)]
Sounds normal as long as you initiated the contact with eBay. If you ever get an unsolicited request for that type of information then it might be a scam and should be reported to eBay right away.

Have you ever bought Anything online using a credit card?? That info is typically required there too. No different… You are purchasing a service. You Can choose to use paypal (which Ebay owns) to pay your seller fees. It can be done any number of ways. Automatic, bill me, or you can do as I do and simply pay the fees at aution end (which is when they will be billed).
Good luck.
An important clue is the appearance of a padlock (or similar icon) on the browser’s window frame. That indicates you have connected to a secure site.
Another is the URL will start with https, the ‘s’ means secure. eBay probably doesn’t have a site named http://paiment.ebay.ru either. Misspellings are often a clue that the site is not legitimate. Aside from the lack of a secure server (no https…).
