Semi Desert Plants

A portion of my new layout is semi desert. I would like to purchase scenery plants that would be appropriate along side the track ballast. I am unable to identify what I am looking for from the scenery company pictures.

Would appreciate any suggestions.

Do you have a particular desert or area in mind?

I would say West or Northwest Colorado

Grand Junction?

Maybe tumbleweeds, short pine trees, snakes! LOL

I have a web article about making sagebrush from fake fur at:

Thank you if you visit

Do you mean the Colorado Plateau covering western Colorado? Plant varieties vary widely. Check this site and the subsites listed in the left column.

Valley floor desert areas like Phoenix, Las Vegas, or high desert such as Tucson or Alamosa, CO and Santa Fe , NM?, As mentioned, there are sage brush, scrub pine, some smaller lower growing prickly pear type cactus in high desert. Same for the Sonoran valley areas but also including Saguaro cactus, mesquite and palo verde trees.

Its not just a product, but a method. Try the new book: Essential Model Railroad Scenery Techniques. That has a section on the semi-desert climate.
