Semi-official Rochelle webcam discussion thread

Makes sense … I was surprised we did not see all the orange locate marks and flags show up before work started.

Just heard on the scanner the UP 95.1 defect detector give an axle count of 1000. I wonder what the train length is. Since it was on track 1 will probably pass the diamonds within a half hour (can’t imgine it would be going into Global 3)

4 engines (3 x 1 mid train) yields a car count of 244. Large blocks of those low cube sand covered hoppers and some white tank cars

THANK YOU!!!

12.09 today, local took a line of boxcars in, and about 30 min. later brought either the same or more out. Also brought out a centerline full of skids. (palates)
If this is the first time around the spur, I can’t say.

Here are four ‘snips’ I got of the first local I have seen around the spur.

Is the switch heater on for the BN switch? Open flame near the switch stand. Or, as I suspect, an electrical fire?https://www.flickr.com/photos/64854874@N07/35001761746/in/dateposted-public/

another screen shot showing multiple sources of flame?

Might just be a campfire in the adjoining back yard. Hard to tell.

I have seen residents in that area burn trash and yard debris in the back of their backyards (and at the end of the deadend street) adjacent to the ROW. I think that is what the flame is and I think some of what looks like multiple flames is really the reflection of the firelight off the faces of people near the fire.

@ XJQCF:

Is that scanner on the Internet?

How can I listen to it?

If and when I’m able to listen to railroad crews, either on a scanner or on my computer, is there something available on the Internet that would explain to novices like myself what it is that train crews are talking about?

Thanks.

Think your right. Thanks for the explanation from both you and Semper Vaporo.

Hi Brian,

I just logged in to the new camera after a period without access to the internet. Is it me or does the new camera require more processessing power to load the images? My system is using an inordinate amount of CPU and memory to load the images.

Young Railfans!!!

What is the truck working on,and how long is it expected to be there?

Looked like a welding/grinding gang. They made some thermite rail welds on a portion of the UP east track panel on #2 that was installed last week as part of the diamond replacement project. Why this was being done I don’t know; they seem to have done the same thing in the same location in the past week; perhaps faulty welds? The finished and rolled east.

I’d suggest checking the version of Adobe Flash that you have installed. One place to do this is here: http://isflashinstalled.com/ Unfortunately, the camera subcontractor (Earthcam) uses this fussy technology. I think the current version is 25. HTH, Mike

Looks like they put the insulated joint back in.

Just saw a mixed freight going eastbound on UP #1 and the taller cars were rockin’ and rollin’. Not quite as bad as before the replacement of the diamonds but definitely worse than just after the replacement.
