Sen. Rockefeller prods STB on BNSF acquistion

railroads, which is did not ???

certification of an applications certification of non-carrier status ???

When is a Jay not a jay? When he’s a loon.

Why are we still treating the industry as if its only competition is itself, 50 years after the system pretty much collapsed thanks to road and airline competition?

Typical government waste on a non issue. why doesn’t the senator focus on trying to reduce the national debt or the deficit.

The Rockefellers have too much control in government.

Ok being from WV myself i really dont see the problim here. The BH aquisition of BNSF was two years ago and railroad seems to be doing fine. Although im not sure how you can not know that as a company you own two railroads.

Am I the only one that find its ridiculous that this is even a matter the government has a say in? I wish BNSF and BH would stand their ground.

I bet this senator wouldn’t say this if he was paying for this by himself instead of making everyone pay for this investigation.

The Senator is a joke.

As a rail shipper and BNSF customer, I am inclined to agree with the railroad’s position on this. Divest the short lines and move on. To open a new proceeding to investigate the Berkshire buyout of BNSF at this time makes very little sense.

BH owns a 90% share of Mid America Energy Holding, which holds a controlling share of a 6-mile shortline in Iowa. BH also owns a controlling interest in Marmon Group, which owns 150 businesses including RailServe, which controls a 13-mile shortline in Oregon. Before David Rockefeller makes a Federal case out of third-hand ownership of 19 miles of track, he should check his family history. John D. Rockefeller was a ruthless, cartel-building oil baron whose business practices (including selling his products below cost to bankrupt competitors, then buying their assets at auction) led to Federal lawsuits and antitrust legislation. Rockefeller “questions the legality” of BH’s ownership of BNSF… maybe he should question the ethicality of his family fortune too!

What a joke. What a waste of time, and a waste of resources. Move on and quit trying to grandstand on an non-issue .

I doubt these ‘stand alone’ shortlines can survive on their own. It seems nice to have a BNSF track gange visit them on occasion. Of course, Old Man Rockefeller re-routed the New York Central’s Putnam Division so it wouldn’t smoke up his estate in Pocantico Hills, NY.

washington should stay out of the railroads business another dem

Just more of Jay making a fool of him-self, we have to put up with him here too. He lovees to spend tax-payers money and act like he is doing us a favor. Ha Ha.

Here in West Virginia,we refer this lanky hooligan as “Rockafailure” We will send him back to Binghamton NY in 2016 if not sooner!!

This is quite laughable except that the STB can get well into meddling in the affairs of a major railroad at the insistence of the present administration in Washington and the likes of Jay Rockefeller who is obviously headline hunting. The Obamunists do not care much for private business and I hope this is a lesson to Warren Buffet who has been in favor of the crazed NObama rrule.

Let’s see. I own two shortlines totalling 19 miles, one in Iowa, the other in Oregon. In order to monopolize traffic between the two, I’m buying the largest railroad in America to link them. Pure genius! seriously, who is Rockefeller kidding? WHAT A JOKE! Why the people of WV continue to elect this buffoon to office is beyond me!

What a productive use of taxpayer dollars a new review would be. I hope the STB politely tells the Senator to take a hike.
