A person with no railroad experience whatsoever heading the Federal RAILROAD Administration … what more needs to be said?!
I wish you the best Ms. feinberg
Hopefully she’ll do a better job of her supposedly more qualified (according to here) predecessors, who were responsible for such idiocy as “Passenger trains should weigh more than the Planet Jupiter”.
I’m not 100% hopeful, but given 99% of the criticism against her is hogwash, I’m inclined to wait it out and see - if there were legitimate complaints about her, I’m sure we’d have heard them by now.
My wife is interested in leading the Surface Transportation Board.
The fact that she is a woman makes no difference at all. The fact that she has no railroad experience makes all the difference in the world but that is the way government operates. Maybe she knows where the bodies are buried and that is why she got the job.
In government, as in business, it’s not prior experience in the field that matters. What does matter are managerial skills and an aptitude for learning.
Mr. Dupee, I tried that approach several days ago and all I got was politically charged sexist rants. (There’s one a couple down from yours even now!) I even had someone suggest I knew nothing about railroading myself, which is not true. I aver, however, that the president of General Electric probably has absolutely no idea how to wind the armature of an electric motor; likely the president of United Airlines is not a pilot. And there are examples of railroad presidents who supposedly knew how to run a train, but didn’t. I wish her the best of luck, expecting that she will do a fine job.
Well, now that we’ve been told that any negative comments are tantamount to Politically Charged Sexist Rants (what a great 21st century phrase!) and that any complaints are, by definition, illegitimate, what is there left to say?
Only this, I suppose: we have the government we deserve.
Mr. Dyer,
Well said!!!
Hey, folks, before we start hollering, how 'bout let’s give the lady a fair shot at her job? In her first years as an employee (as opposed to a student) my Wife banged her head several times on the “glass ceiling” common then. I’m sure there will be some in this lady’s way, too.
Ah, yes; I forgot about the proverbial “glass ceiling.”
If Feinberg is deemed successful at her new job (which, presumably, will be judged as performance at any level above grossly incompetent), then it will be due to her innate abilities (e.g. “managerial skills and…aptitude for learning”).
If she’s unsuccessful, it will be due to institutionalised sexism.
Interestingly, Messrs. Perkins and McGuire remain absolutely correct in their summation: we have yet another head of the Federal Railroad Administration possessing no railroad experience, whatsoever.
I see this and wonder if it’s truly the best we’re capable of doing.
The majority of those leaving comments see no apparent problem; therefore, I have my answer.
Well said Mr. Latham!
