SEPTA reaches tentative agreement with BLET
Wow. An 8.5% immediate raise AND a lump sum bonus as well. Why do I think that in ten years or less there will be a cries of woe over the impossible burden of these wages…
Not to defend this tentative agreement. But the sums of money are not huge considering that it took the two parties over four years ! to come up with something. It’s what 2 1/2 % per year ?
Only to start renegotiating all over again as soon as…next summer ? !
To quote Micheal W. “wow.”
Were you an employer, Mikey, at the end of the year when wages did not increase, you could give a message to your workers that, employees,Over this past year your purchasing power was just sliced, cut, chopped and dropped by (the percentage amount of annual inflation.)
Over a span of 4 years repeat the message: dropped 2%, then 2.1%, next 2.3. then…
Employer, what did you do with that wage consistency money that your employees didn’t get but, earned?
Ken, if you defend the wage part of the agreement,I’ll walk side-by-side and “have your back.”
Wow to what ? On the surface the tentative increase looks substantial. But as I said before. Didn’t it take 4 years at 0% to get there ?
If anyone advocates a complete wage freeze instead of what’s been put forward for the whole contract alright. Shouldn’t it also be applied equitably across the board in all crafts or trades ? Would it include every administrative / managerial / non schedule posting in the whole company ?
Is any part retroactive? If not the signing bonus is peanuts. What was their current rate of pay? I am under the impression SEPTA pays low rate. Or, is that only on their street transit lines?
