Got the September 2006 issue of Model Railroader in the mail yesterday!
Still reviewing the new articles, but one thing that strikes my eye frist thing is that there is a layout planning contest on page 69.
Looks interesing, the first prize is $1,000.00. [yeah]
All entries are due by October 31, 2006. Hey that’s my BD too! [8D]
Cheers,
Ryan
Is there any minimum layout size?
Thanks,
Spit
The layout contest planning rules on page 69 give 9 specific rules. The size is explained in detail in rule number 1.
- Each entry must include a scale layout plan and a written description.
- The scale layout plan must be drawn to 3/4" = 1’ -0" scale.
- The plan must be for an HO scale, standard gauge model railroad to fit in a 9 X 11-foot room with a doorway as shown in the accompanying drawing. The ceiling height is 8’-0".
There are more details, but in the drawing of the room is 11 feet wide and 9 feet deep, and the left side of the door is located 1’ foot from the left wall and appears to be 30" in width.
Sounds too complicated for me, but the $1000 big ones might change a mans outlook and if he has the time, go for it, but you might end up investing that much in a layout. Who knows, though, might be worth a try!
I’ve always enjoyed designing layouts so I may give it a whirl. It would be nice if MR had a download of the floor plan on their web site. That would eliminate having to redraw the room and possibly flubbing the measurements. Just print and start doodling! [^]
There are just so many possibilities for that room…any one seen the pencil sharpener? [swg]
I just got my MR today[:D] I really enjoyed the article on modeling cornfields (I’m going to have a few on my layout)
Heck, maybe I’ll try designing a layout for the contest.
