I have the Super Chief system and my stationary decoder is the DS64. I can program routes with the buttons on the DS64 but would like to use the handheld to program routes and can not get it to work. They show the first step in the manual but I think one more illustration showing the second step would be helpful. I have routes enabled using the option switches. Is there an option switch I have to change in the DS64. Maybe someone has a quick tutorial that goes in to more depth than what is in the manual.
You can also download this and any other manual and save it on your computer after down loading click on save a copy. Or copy the manual to Microsoft Word and save it as a doc. file.
Page 18 on the DS64 manual discusses how to program using the throttle. I have a DS64 but haven’t hooked it up yet. Which step on page 18 are you getting stuck on ?
How To Set Up Routes Using Your DS64
Press and hold down the STAT button on your DS64 until the green LED begins to blink quickly. You are now ready to set up a Route.
To program the DS64 Route Number, use your DCC throttle in Switch mode to select a Switch Address from 1 through 8 and issue a Closed or Thrown command. This lets the DS64 know which of the 8 available routes you are setting up. This is NOT the address you use to operate the route.
*The first switch address that you enter is called the top address. It will operate the route you have defined when you send a closed or thrown command (depending on your setup).*To set up the switch address and position that will control the operation of the route, use your DCC throttle to select the Switch Address you want to use (from 01 through 2048) and issue either a Closed or Thrown command depending on the turnout position you want to use when the Route is run. After you select the top address and send a thrown or closed command, the STAT LED will begin to blink at a slower rate.
To set up the rest of the switch addresses and positions for the route, select the Switch Address (from 01 through 2048) and issue either a Closed or Thrown command depending on the turnout position you want when the Route is run. As you select the switch addresses and send thrown or closed commands you will notice that the green STAT LED’s blink rate will increase for Switch #1, #2, #3 & #4. When Switch #5 is set up, the STAT LED will change to red and as Switches #6, #7 & #8 are set up, the red blink rate will
Thanks for the info.Take a look at page 15 of the manual that comes with the DS64 and tell me if they left out a few lines that are not in the online version of the manual you sent. What you sent clears up alot. Do you know how to program routes through the handheld without using the buttons on the DS64, This is actually what I want to do but cant get it to work. I think it works the same as th DS64 buttons. I think the info above will help me get that aspect of route control to work. It seems Digatrax asumes everybody knows how this stuff works out of the box but when they dont include all the info in the manuals that come with the product it is easy to get lost.
The DS64 is great, set up 4 routes with no problems. I dont know what they are trying to convey in the Super Chief manual about setting up routes. The DS64 is a piece of cake compared to there way.
If you bought your DS64 when it first came out - the online manual very likely is an updated version versus what you got in the box. Digitrax set up a place for people to comment on the manuals and offer suggestions, and the DS64 was probably the first one to benefit from this. The end result was that the manual was updated per customer feedback to make it clearer and more complete.
Are you talking about setting up routes in the command station, or programming routes into the DS64? It’s not quite the same thing. Check the documentation section on the Digitrax site, if you’ve had your Super Chief for a while there may be an updated manual. Plus there are several tip guides and cheat sheets that don’t come with the system. Another place to look is the Digitrax group on Yahoo Groups. There’s a lot of knowledgeable Digitrax users there, and other information in the files section.
