Sharing two photos of my latest (Chemical Storage Tanks Redux)

This project still is not done. Unlike all my previous pieces where I would steam ahead, not resting until finished, I am actually “putzing” on this one. Editing photos is getting fun and I am happy with the AC Storage Tanks so far. All that is left is to;

Weather it some more

Paint some details

Add some signs

Wire it

Add some figures

Put on the ladders

Drop some hoses

Put it on the layout

Cheers!

Hmm, are there prototype for those kind of tanks. I can’t really remember seeing large size tanks like that (outside of smaller farm water tanks and such) in the real world. Not saying there aren’t such tanks, but a proto-photo would be interesting to see.

Also, did you just cut some spark plug boxes apart and glue the logos to the tanks? It…seems to…er, well seems to detract from the realism - wouldn’t such signs be either painted/stenciled onto the tanks, or at the least painted/decalled onto a flatish (curved to fit the side of the tank) piece of sheet metal, and then mounted on the side of the tank?

I do like the unloading dock positioning - that is pretty cool looking…

If your good with color pencils you could simply sketch your design on there, so it has that curved look. Great photos overall!

If you use the color pencils and it doesn’t work out you could always erase!

I hate to say it but those hoses way up top look awfully high.

Most of the time I see POL Products being transferred or loaded under cover to defend against lightning etc.

But I gotta say, great work so far. But I am in terror to see those sprouts so high.

hi there i hope you are ok with constructive thoughts, i work in the bulk fuel industry and i can gaurantee that those loading racks are too high, mostly built on the ground as the previous mentioned, lightning goes for the highest spot, and your racks are perfect targets, and the tanks are loaded and unloaded from the bottom as not to allow agitation and vapour build up, i can probaly get you some good loading facilties pictures.

You could probaly suspend the loading rack over the tracks between the tanks, i have seen that set up before for loading ashpalt and bunker oil. But generally it looks good, i like the champion heralds. Keeps at you’ll get it

I welcome them. I like to show my work and get suggestions. That’s why I share the images. Let me respond to a couple of the critiques here;

There is no prototype for this or any of my other scratch builds. I find that there is a prototype for almost everything. I’m not as suprised as I used to be when I model something from my wild imagination, then later, I’ll find something in 1:1 that looks just like it.

I DID see the Champion heralds on some structures at the AC Delco (Delphi) plant in Flint MI.

AC = A. Champion

Like many of my signs, they are glossed over downloads. That loading platform is supposed to run parallel in between two tracks of course, but I like this arrangement. Very dramatic. I’ll have some 30’ hoses hanging down to the tank domes with some workers guiding them when it’s done. I’ve been fortunate so far that no thunderheads have been seen in my basement lately.
