shays or diesels????

i think diesels are better but hek what would i know i’m just a new model railroad inthusiast!!![:D]

What are better ducks or gila monsters?

Apples and oranges, buddy.

I hope the poll features go with the stars…[sigh]

shays are kool lookin but diesel i always liked.

This kind of a pointless poll. But shays are much cooler than diesels. Still, I don’t see the point of this but whatever.

THAT INFORMATION IS CLASSIFIED, IT IS STORED AD 123 YOURGULLIBLE ROAD Wollongbar

I agree, it is kind of pointless. I like them both but they both have advantages and disadvantages and place. I personaly don’t like an sd40-2 for pulling log cars in the woods on a 4% grade light rail but I don’t like a shay for pulling refers or autoracks on the maneline. But in their right place and time they look great. But that is just my opinion.

Better for what?

The sad thing is six people have voted…[D)]

THE EXCITING SHAY VERSUS THE DIESEL.NO CONTEST.

How could anyone compare a Shay to a stinky dismal?

Trainmaster, I am curious why you would ask the question in the first place? Are you trying to decide what to buy?

If you want a steam loco that sounds as if it’s going sixty when it’s actually doing ten, the Shay takes the prize.

If you need a loco that can exert high starting tractive effort and actually go sixty, the diesel is the only way to fly.

As for me, I really like catenary motors. No air pollution!

Looks like it’s “poll season” again…and it’s contagioius, too. (It must be. I spent last evening making a lighted pole for my layout.)

P.S. Dave, I didn’t vote.

It depends…it always depends…

I can’t believe I read the whole thing. What about climax?

N&W tested the largest shay made, they gave up on it because it was too slow and sold it to the western maryland.
Y6b time!!

love shays tho.

I LIKE DEISILS . SHEYAS R 2 OLLD. DEISEILS DONT SMOK AS MUCH . DISEALS R KEWL!

Not a personal stab at anyone.

Well, like everyone else is saying, it depends. Personally, I like diesels better simply because I am, how you say, a “diesel man” in my own right. Does the very earth rumble when a small shay pulling a quarter-mile log train at a leisurly pace of 5-and-a-half miles per hour passes by? Not likely, but a pair of brand-spankin new GE ES44DCs pulling a 1-and-a-half mile intermodal train at 50 mph sure as heck makes the earth, along with small children, tremble with fear. [8D]

Don’t cough… It brings on Diseasals!
