So like all good stories, my Model railroad journey started after my divorce. I have to tell you, this is one of the most peaceful hobbies i have ever had. My drag racing buddy Sid, AKA Wounded bear, got me into model railroading. He was my mentor if you will, helped me with my DCC control set up and all my rolling stock. I am running all CNR rolling stock, and all Rapido locomotives, i have 5 in total. I have 3 GMD-1 units, i run one as a single, and 2 in a consist. Then i have 2 smaller units i use for yard switching etc.
I am trying to model from 1966 to 1976 era, I was on the road with work all through the 90’s and got to see almost every small town and city in my province. That has given me a lot of inspiration for my layout.
I try to make as much stuff as I can. I do a lot of kit bashing, and never throw anything away. I make a lot of my own debris, stairs decks. Trees and shrubs I have learned to make. Sheets of plywood etc, anything I can think of.
But, I thought divorces were supposed to be the result of this hobby, not the other way around.
Also, the title made me think it was going to be about the character Sheldon on the Big Bang Theory, or more accurately his layout from when he was a kid (featured in Young Sheldon). Yours is way better.
Sheldon, I have followed your layout for a while before on the Bachmann forum. This forum will probably be a better place to show off your great layout. Especially since you do not have to use a photo sharing service to post your photos. I have hundreds of them in other threads around on this site. I used to follow Sid’s too while he was still living.
I have a question about one of the photographs. There’s a little narrow gauge track running down the middle of the layout. At one point it goes under some trees and goes out of sight in the back somewhere. What is that?
Well, I’m just the opposite. We only spend about 5 months of the year at “home”. We spend the rest of it together almost 24 hours a day. Usually 24 hours a day. So, when we are home she LOVES it when I disappear into the “train room”. I’m about 9 months back into the hobby and just 3-4 months of home time.
