Shells of Amfleet cars near Wilmington, DE station

A mile or so north of the station, on a siding at “ground level”, there are some shells of Amfleet cars on the north (west?) side of the tracks. They have been there for some time.

Does anyone know what these are used for?

They might be there for conversion into prototype Amfleet Diners.

These cars are “victims” of age, and Amtrak’s inability to get funding to keep it’s cars fixed and in use. But-the Amfleet cars are badly in need of replacement-they are older now than the majority of cars Amtrak inherited from the railroads in Amtrak way back in 1971! And they still can’t get new dining cars for eastern corridors that run into New York. Everywhere else, they have superliners, which are not aging well either!
