Shelocta Track Work

I was wondering if any of the guys I’ve seen railfanning in the Shelocta area use these boards. Today, on my way up here, I saw a Conrail loco sitting on the track right by the railroad crossing of Route 422, and some machine on the track that goes behind the coal mine. I’ve heard that they’ve been working on the other end up around Clarksburg, but does anyone know if they’re going to be around here for a while? The gas prices wouldn’t be a problem for local railfanning, and if I could be sure they’d be around, I could stop and visit the action from time to time. I’d really love to see work trains, too, but I don’t know if there will be any on this end of teh line. Anybody know anything about this?

IIRC they are building a line to the Keystone Generating Plant. They are also beefing up an old branch. My guess is that they won’t be there very long.

Actually, there is already a line going to the plant, but the line that they’re beefing up is going to be much shorter than their current one. They’ll likely leave the current line, with its terrible track condition, to B&P, which is operating coal trains going to the Homer City plant. It looks like they made a new switch to link up, so the incoming trains won’t have to go over Route 422 once the project’s complete.

If that’s the piece of new line change near Indiana, PA , the construction will go on well into the fall. We get to see that construction progress up-close in August courtesy of NS and AREMA.

AREMA? What’s that? And how did you get Ns to allow you near that? I got kicked out when I tried to watch the Route 422 crossing reconstrcution from a fair distance away.

Must be the place.

Big hint: http://www.AREMA.org [:D] (there are advantages to all the schooling and brain damage when you enjoy what you are hard at work! )
