She's real fine, my GP9

Roggie; Love the story! As to nitpickers arguing over GP7 or GP9 I think GP9 works better than spltting the note into 2 so you can be typologically correct and end up with ‘She’s real fine, my GP-se-ven’ —trip—bang —crash.

Talk about grump producing—

In the words of the former governor of Illinois, “I’ve done nothing wrong.” [(-D]

The chassis may not be Athearn, but that SP black widow Geep shell is definitely an Athearn. I know an Athearn Geep shell when I see one.

Makes me wonder if the Slickee Boys wrote "Jailbait Janet" about my 10th grade girlfriend!

Reaching deep into geezer memory…the BOX this item came in, is WHITE, with a cellophane top so you can see the GPwhatever inside. Help anyone figure out whose it is?

In three months, I’ll be able to see for myself (hard to believe I’m halfway through this season, seems we just unpacked from the trip down here…grumble, grumble)

Hello. My name is Rudolph. I am your long lost child. When I was born, the hospital made a terrible mistake and switched me at birth. It has taken me 25 years, but through modern technology I have finally been able to track down my true father, you. I would like it if we could reaquint ourselves, and possbily make up for lost time. Will you agree to love me and honor me as your long lost son? To be honest and caring? To put me in your will and leave me the car, then go for a late night swim in the ocean where you mysteriously vanish? There will be no worries long lost father. I promise to love, honor, and cherris that beautiful 409 dear long lost father, and to listen intently and obey any commands it gives. Such as if say drive me, I shall drive it around town to please it. If it says clean me I shall NOT take it to a car wash, but lovinly and carefully clean it my self with gentle car wash soap and bottled water from some natural spring in a far away country. And, if it chooses, I shall so be it’s mechanic, so no other hands will touch it and no dam dirty paws are on it. So, loving long lost father, shall I give you my truethful full name for your lawyers? [4:-)]

Okay, now that THAT B’boys song worked its way into this thread, I have to trot out one of my “A” stories…I was able to find my 10th grade girlfriend by going into the Classmates site…and wrote her a note saying I hope she remembered me, as I think of her every time I hear a certain song.

You see, she used to come pick me up in her dad’s cool Thunderbird convertible, saying she told her dad she was picking up “the professor” (my nickname) and going to the library to study…only, where she’d take us, was to the street where they hold the Rose Parade in Pasadena on New Years.

We’d drive in a big circle, ending at the Bob’s Big Boy hamburger joint, going about 5 mph, along with a thousand other kids in their cars–she explained to me it was called “cruising.”

She wrote back to me, saying nothing but: DUH! (and her phone number in Kansas).

I called, asking what “DUH” was supposed to mean, and she said: “If ANYone should have known that the song you’re talking about, was written for us, it’d be you.” {HUH???}

She goes on: “Remember how when you’d walk me home from school, if the garage door was open, you’d get all scared, as it meant my brother was in there playing surf guitar with his buddies from Hawthorne. They’d push you down, and threaten to kill you, for dating Larry’s little sister…do you recall those brothers?”

(Oh, yeah, what a bunch of idiots…I think their last name was WILSON, right? WAIT A MINUTE! You mean that was the stinking BEACH BOYS?)

"yeah, and when my brother let on to dad that we were NOT going to the library, he took the Tbird away, and Brian Wilson thought it was so funny, he wrote that “Fun Fun Fun” song. How could you NOT figure that out? <

Unca,

Is that story true? If so then it’s pretty amazing. And you got to meet the Beach Boys! And they beat you up. Hey, how many people can stake that claim to fame? Now, if Sloop John B. was written about you I’d be worried…

Terry,

Are the GP9’s made by atlas? I have been looking for one for quite a while. Found a DC version at the LHS couple weeks ago and jumped on it. Now I am sorry it wasn’t DCC.

MC

Yes There are 2 different road numbers in DCC with Sound

the horn is not quite right but close enough

There’s a GP7 in the consist in the center with no sound

Terry, From the looks of it yours looke like P2Ks, not Atlases. I don’t think atlas ever did any GP9s with sound.

Your absolutely right Packer

I had to go look at the boxes i had them confused with a pair of B23-7s I have

My SP blkwidow is not an Atlas…and has no sound, no DCC…but I had it on a loop of track, using Soundtraxx and it started up at about 2 mph, creeping along convincingly, taking extra power nicely, til it seemed it’d turn over at the curves.

Oh, and about the Beach Boys story…another high school girlfriend writes me recently, to say she got to go SEE Brian Wilson in concert in some remote Michigan town…and batted-eyelashed her way to the dressing room area, explaining to the “handler” guy, how she knows the story of how “Fun Fun Fun” was inspired, and needs to discuss it with Brian.

The guy makes a motion, holding his thumb and forefinger tightly together, and makes a sharp inhaling sound. For a moment, Lynn thought he meant she could get in to see him, if she was carrying WEED.

Turns out, he was trying to say without words, that Brian is permanently stoned…and WITH words, elaborates on how he would probably not be able to pin down where he IS at the moment, much less about some event that happened in 1963.

I was disappointed: it would have been comforting to hear of his confirming the story. On the other hand, how many coincidences should I NEED to realize it HAD to be from what I remember from back then?

Love that SP GP9. Wanted to show my GP7 I have been working on. I hope I can get the pic to load. Just finished painting and lettering it, and have not installed the railings yet.
