Shipping

Hi,

We always get to here about e-bay seller overpricing on shipping. Well today, I checked my bank account and noticed that the company that I’ve ordered from, a very large and respectable MR store had done the same to me. Kind of anyways.

The thing was, when I was comparing prices for a few items that I wanted I ofcourse figured in the shipping price. So this place gave me the price that it would be 55$ before I placed the order, or they said about 55$. Well as I said, I checked my account now after I got notice that it’s on the way. They charged me 145$. That is not even close!

How would you react? It’s to late to refuse the order and sent it back, that will cost me even more. I’m going to contact them and see what they have to say but another time when they shipped me the wrong stuff I had to pay for the shipping both back for the wrong ones before they would send me the correct ones and the price of shipping for the replacement ones. They also refused to write to customs that they where replacements so I had to pay customs twice, which is 25% plus a 16 dollar fee.

So, it will probably be the last time I buy from there.

How would I react, Magnus? Not so much with righteous indignation, although it would be a close second, but with a civil and steeled determination to get my money returned to me…and quickly. I would bet that they have shipped a very large parcel for that charge, or they have simply made an egregious error. I would also find out by calling them and getting it put right. It might cost you a $10 phone call, but if it nets you nearly $115 in refund, you will be better off. In fact, while you are on the phone tell them the next order is free since you had to incur the expense of calling to correct their error.

Lillen,

Having something shipped from overseas must be a nightmare at best.

I understand that “you all” typically don’t use credit cards but let the buyers draft from your bank. Frankly that scares the Dickens out of me! Perhaps you could use Paypal or some other means that would allow you to get the total amount due - and ok it - BEFORE it is shipped.

I will contact them tomorrow Crandell, the problem is in proving what they said! Last time they screwed up they were not keen on fixing it. So I don’t expect much this time. But I will try.

It was a big shipment, but the price was roughly the same as for the other companies. It contains the Milwaukee station and three sheds. So it’s not small by by means. I wouldn’t have minded as much if they had told me up front. This way I lost a lot of cash thinking it was the better deal.

I’m going to check the invoice when it gets here to see how they came up with this figure.

Magnus

It is usually OK actually. Walthers for instance have been great when something got lost and FDT is the best when it comes to shipping. I’ve only really had problems with these guys. So I think they will loose my business unless they correct it, which if I’m honest I do not think that they will do.

You are absolutely right about the credit cards. We do got them over here and they are getting more common but when I shop via credit card it’s directly from my bank, no credit!

Most places are very accurate when it comes to shipping, but this place always gives estimates, never 100% this is the amount. I like places like Walthers, FDT and Micro Mark for instance that shows the price before I push buy. I can say that I will pay a few more bucks for the items rather then bet on the uncertainty of approximate shipping, but sometimes I’ll have to bite the bullet.

I should ad that this shipping is for an express package and it will get here in about two days. So it’s OK that it costs more, I just like to know a little better.

Magnus

Lillen,

Kind of off the subject here…

Your signature (which I have seen many times on postings) apologizes for your English. Please, no apologies necessary!!! You obviously speak/write more than one language which is at least one more than most folks I know. From my dealings with overseas folks (working for Mobil & ExxonMobil), everyone of them were literate in English plus their native tongue.

Ha, I only speak a bit of Italian (Mom’s native tongue) and some street Spanish (a must in south Texas), so don’t feel bad or feel the need to apologize!!!

ENJOY,

Magnus,

The items you purchased are pretty heavy…3.5 pounds for each shed. The station/shed combo is easily 7 pounds, so you’re looking at close to a 20 pound package. According to the http://usps.gov web page, a 20 pound box shipped Priority Mail International (6-10 day delivery) would cost $85.50 for postage. They did overcharge you if those are the only items you purchased.

I agree, Magnus. We get it already. Lose the qualification in your signature. [:)]

I have friends in Switzerland and recently shipped a package to them with a BLI 2-10-2 and a six pack of hoppers and a few other items. I used the USPS and it cost $54. I had checked with UPS and the price would be almost 2 and 1/2 more by UPS. UPS does not have a lower standard rate like the USPS. It took less than a week to ship it to them and the package being packed correctly had no damage.

I would guess your package was extremely heavy or shipped by an air freight company, or ot regular USPS. I believe there is a special USPS but it is much higher and not much quicker since this package got over there in only four or fiv

Here in the United States one Phone call to my credit card issuer (Which happens to be my bank as well as several others) will totally refuse payment on the sale and the package shipped BACK to the point of origin. If necessary escalated to the Attorney General for Arkansas most useful for obtuse or stubbern vendors.

I get exactly what I ordered, pay shipping I understand or not at all.

I try anyone once. One mistake and they no longer have my business.

I recieved a computer part today. Due to technical issues not the fault of the vendor I send it back at thier charge for a full refund. It cost me nothing. I will be ordering from them again.

I usually go through one of the hobby shops to get pre-orders in and they take care of the shipping. I only have to drive down and get it home. Now … ebay… whew. I recieve USPS Priority or not at all.

Ive shot my mouth off enough tonight, amazing what a bit of duct tape, filling and printing labels for return can do.

Don’t know how this works in Sweden, but over here next door (in Norway) we do have both kinds of credit cards - the kind that really is a debit card (where money is automatically transferred from a bank account) and the kind that is an actual credit card (where you get a bill once a month). You might want to look into something like that, too, Magnus.

As for your shipping charges. You ordered a big heavy package with second day delivery to another continent. That means courier delivery (like UPS). That means it will be relatively expensive.

$145 (a little under 800 Swedish Kronor ?) sounds about like what you must expect to pay for express shipping of something the size of the Milwaukee station w/several extra train sheds.

Next time, if you decide to actually care about shipping cost, pick up a phone or send email and ask for a firm quote (instead of an estimate) on shipping before you order. Or choose a slower and less expensive form of shipping.

You don’t have to “bite the bullet”. Being relatively free with your money and stingy with your pre-ordering time is your choice.

Smile,
Stein

Stein, if yo

Get off my back guys!!! [:D] Oh, wait that should be taken as a compliment, but I wanted to fight.

Well your will is my command. I’ve been thinking of doing it since I feel that my spelling is quite alright nowadays.

So there, PRESTO!

Magnus
