Short order general question.

What’s a shhort order. I read about it in the article about the Fort Worth and Western?

Sounds like breakfast at your local Coney.

Context or quote ?

As in “that customer needs their cars in short order”?

That means the customer needs the cars NOW. But that’s just one context.

Means the same as PDQ.

“Pretty Darned Quick!”

I’m with Paul. How is it used?

I don’t recall seeing “short order” in the article and just glancing back through it I didn’t come across it. I do see short line and slow order being mentioned.

Whilst waiting on the context to be served-up.

“shorts” can be cars in a consist for a roadswitcher that are set-out or picked-up short of destination. They usually have “orders” to the crew on what to be done with them. Trains will radio to their terminal what they have to the terminal yardmaster what they are coming in with if the switchlist/consist is not correct and add the shorts to that list and where they are in the train.

What’s a slow order???

A temporary speed restriction. Usually because of track/roadbed conditions. Even though temporary, some can last a long time.
