Short whell Base 4 Wheel Trailing Truck

I’m in the process of kit bashing a Mehano 2-10-2 and have mounted a vstibule cab on it. Looking at the result it looks like the engine would look much better and be better balanced as a 2-10-4.

I have tried using a Rivarossi 4 wheel truck but it’s too long. Question is. Are there any 4 wheel trailing trucks that are a short wheel base available and who makes them?

Fergie

Did you try Bowser and Yardbird? They sell 4 wheel trailings but I don’t know the wheel base.

Another option - look for a Mantua one from a 4-6-4 or 2-8-4 - or buy the whole model on eBay for the part.

Yardbird sells Mantua parts.

Thanks Guys the Yar Bird Trains site is very good and I may look into it a bit deeper. I have several trailing trucks for a Rivarossi Berk but it was a bit big. I’ll have to wait and see.

Hey Fergie what about using the Lifelike training truck off their Berk ? I seem to remember reading somewhere that they can be bought as an extra part. They seem to be a fairly short wheelbase.

A few years ago I did a kitbash of an IHC/Mehano 4-8-2. It has the same basic frame and overall dimensions as the IHC/Mehano 2-10-2. I added a small extension to the boiler and moved my cab back a little, but it might work for you as well.

I used a 4 wheel trailing truck from a Bachmann 4-8-4. It has a short 5’ wheel base and has the added benefit of 4 wheel pickup. At the time I just called Bachmann and ordered one.

This may help:

Trailing truck on my Bowser 4-8-4 has demensions as follows. 5/8" between bearing centers; side frame height: 5/16"; and side frame length: 1 5/8". Demensions on Bowser trailing truck for my Pennsy T-1 4-4-4-4 are 5/8" between bearing centers; side frame height: 3/8"; and side frame length: 1 1/2".
