I love short line railroading!
I will have the Belt Railway of Chicago, it interconnects most major railways and a good excuse to model them all…but I will have the N&W, NKP, CSS&SB, CNS&M, CNW, IC, NYC, Virginian mixed into the heap as well…
the line i am modeling is Manistee & Northeastern Railway’s Lake Leelanau branch which ran between Hatch’s Crossing to Lake Leelanau in Michigan’s Leelanau County. i have 3 diesel locomotives that will be painted signal yellow with black lettering for my HO scale Leelanau County Railway

My goal is to remind people of the Minnesota, Dakota, & Western while not driving myself nuts trying to be absoloutely prototypical. I will be satisfied if I capture the “flavor” of the road serving as my inspiration. While the MD&W runs S2 Alco switchers I will be content with S1’s. The paint job may not match. The track plan does not follow the prototype faithfully, it allows me to try and do the same type of work as the prototype in the space I have. Interchange will be with the BN rather than CN. Because I say so. I am a sucker for any MD&W freight car I can find and that is the one time I will bend my budget and pay a little more for rolling stock, my weakness if you will.
