I am at the stage in my layout where I’ve glued down WS trackbed over WS styrofoam risers on one of my curves. I’ve alwys screwed down my Gargraves track but this time there is nothng olid to screw into.
So should I glue the track directly to the roadbed?
If you use watersolvable glue you can easily dismantle the track when you’re rebuilding your layout. It also doesn’t harm the foam roadbed. You can simply glue the track onto it, may be hold it in place while the glue hardens with some small nails or needles, and that should be solid enough. When dismatling, just add water and the glue looses it’s strength.
If your planning on ballasting you could use pins, screws, double sided tape, etc. to hold the track in place till ballasted and the ballast glued down and dry then remove the mechanical fastners. I used Gargrave on cork road bed glued and stapled to fiberous insulation board. I screwed the track down, in someplaces all the way to the plywood base, placed my ballast and glue solution. When dry removed the screws. I haven’t had any problems in going on 4 yrs.
Home Depot or any place that sells carpet has double sided carpet tape that works great!!.. you can also use it to hold down ballast if you want
worked for me!! [2c]
