Should I repower this AC4400? (PICS)

I am getting ready to paint this OMI AC4400 in the KCS paint. I ran this motor and it seems to be OK. This looks like a real easy one to repower. I am not sure what motor is even in this thing. What motor would be a good fit in this space?

Mike, I really don’t know what you are trying to gain here. I have and have run the living daylights out of several Overland diesels and have NEVER had a problem with them. That motor should be fine. Overland has used several different motors over the years, Buehler and Mashima among them. Almost all were very good and hold up well. I would leave it alone.

There’s an old axiom that fits here, “If it aint broke, don’t fix it”.

There’s not much more to say.

It does run quiet and is surely fast enough. I guess I should just leave it alone.

I would make sure it is lubricated, then run it for a while. It may be just a little tight.

Unless that motor has a problem, changing it with a Kato, Mashima, Sagami, etc would be a waste of time.
