I was just wondering If I should switch from O guage to HO scale. Is it really worth it? I have an (all of these in O guage)
Amtrak Acela
Big Boy
Daylight
GG1
Amtrak Superliner
Pennsylvania, I have no I dea exacly what it is.
Tons of fastrak
Should I move on with all this stuff on hand? I just always wanted a freight yard and city for cummuter all together. Right now im 12 years old. Any other questions just ask. I also do not want a riot on this.
If you have all that in HO, then go HO. You have some really impressive stuff there. I would love to have the Big Boy, Daylight, and GG1 my self. Cool thing is, at age 12, people with get stuff for you. At my age, I have to get it myself.
I actually ment those in O guage. sorry bout that.
I personally would stick with O. You have a very nice fleet there, and getting established in HO will cost you. Better to put your money into enlarging the collection rather than diversifying!
Monto, what made you wonder about going with HO in the first place? Is there somthing about HO you like, or are there issues with O that you are concerned with?
It stick with what you have now. Maybe later on in life you might switch to HO.
with a nice collection like that i’d be tempted to carefully pack them away in a box for the future
If you have the space monto… id stay with O. You sound slike you have quite a collection there. Having an O-Scale Big Boy?? Im even jealous. I model N scale myself. But ive seen some very nice O scale layouts. I would just build upon what you have… space permitting that is.
I would stick with the O gauge unless you have a lack of space for your current scale, in which case I would carefully store your current fleet just in case you decide to get back into it.
Thanks guys. For the space question, well in 2 years or so my dad is thinking of getting a two floor barn to store his porsches(2). Well He said I could use the top floor for my layout. So that could be a some what amount of space for a layout. but that’s when im fourteen!! My dad said he would help me make a layout 5 years ago! HO was into mind because of theSpace and it’s easier to make a decent sized layout.
Go ahead and switch to HO. You can get twice as much in the same space and HO is chaper than O. I’ve noticed O scale freight cars are about $50 but HO cars are only $11-$20.
Do what you will under your own terms. Don’t make a mistake. I would personally go with HO and maybe see what I could get out of my things and what I’m willing to invest into a new railroad or into O scale before making a decision. Good luck!
I failed to read the part about the 2 porsches before I posted that last thing…if I were you I’d take advantage of my daddy in debt and go with HO. You can have alot more stuff and it is highly more detailed!
I’d stick with the O scale. You could do a small 4x8 layout for now, until you get that barn. You’ve got a lot invested in O (plus a lot of cool equipment![:)]) to switch to HO.
My thoughts exactly Jon, you can always improve on what you have. Might as well enjoy it. You being young, you wouldnt know how much the technology of model railroading has improved. But whether you stay with O or go to HO. There is more stuff out there than you can dream of… just let your imagination go.
