Welcome to the February, 2020

"Show Me Something"

D****edicated to the originator, Jarrell

Thank you for setting up the February “Show Me” thread, Kevin[Y]

General Electric had a small fleet of these covered hoppers for transporting silica sand to its various glass plants for use in bulb manufacturing:

More freight cars, please.

Ed: “More freight cars, please.”

A string of box cars.

More freight cars, please.

Here are some Dominion/Fowler boxcars, from Accurail…

I didn’t care for the original board roofs, so re-did them as metal-sheathed with battens. I also replaced the stock roofwalks, as they were a scale 6" too short on both ends - that “shortcoming” is similar to the cars offered previously by LifeLike Canada, and is attributable, I think, to an error in a drawing in the June, 1985 issue of Mainline Modeler. Photos of the real cars, in that same issue, show an overhang considerably longer.

Wayne

I like freight cars a lot, so let’s see some more, please.

.

Here are two STRATTON AND GILLETTE boxcars that just left for Maryland and some interchange service. I hope they provide good service where they are heading.

Show me more freight cars going somewhere.

More freight trains on-the-move, please.

Here’s an MDC reefer heading for the National Grocers’ warehouse in downtown Dunnville…

Wayne

More freight cars, please.

Ah, well, here is a freight train coming under a bridge.

More freights please.

.

Here is a STRATTON AND GILLETTE freight train. That hopper car is also on the way to Maryland for interchange service.

Here is one of the “standard” STRATTON AND GILLETTE cabooses.

It is SUPERBOWL SUNDAY! So… so me any train car!

Here is a 33000Gal tank car with the British American Oil logo.

Please show me another B/A logo or Gulf Oil who bought out B/A.

Here’s a somewhat older and smaller version…

Kevin, there are two "P"s in supperbowl here in Canada…I think it’s somehow related to the business with color/colour.
We use them everyday, so you must have a special one for Sundays, eh?

Wayne

Since we’re on the subject anyway, please show me a freight car that would carry something related to food.

Dressed Beef?

Well, I actually prefer my beef “in the flesh” as it were.

More food-related rolling stock, please.

Here’s the EG&E’s dining car “Magnetawan”…

Wayne

I have an appetite for some more food-related rolling stock, please.

How about a couple of reefers bringing in gaylords of frozen fruit and vegtables, for packaging at Grandma Ginger’s Foods.

Who doesn’t like food! bring more food related rail cars.

Mike.

Show me a grain service covered hopper

On my late '30s-era layout, we’re still shipping grain in boxcars, like this Dominion/Fowler car…

With the ability to adjust the boards so they can be kept tight, such cars were well-suited to grain service, and many survived on prairie branchlines well into the '50s and beyond.

However, I do cheat a bit on era-appropriateness, so have quite a few covered hoppers, too, although none are in grain service. Instead these Fowler cars have been converted with both roof hatches and longitudinal hoppers, for flux service at GERN Industries…

and there are lots of true covered hoppers, too…

Wayne

And, in accordance with George’s request, please show us some grain hoppers.

OK Wayne, more grain hoppers, at the milling part of Grandma Ginger’s Foods.

Grain hoppers are good, lets continue.

Mike.

.

STRATTON AND GILLETTE 750498 is in grain service.

.

.

Show me a freight car that IS NOT a grain service covered hopper car.
