Show Me Something...... May 2013

I think we are looking for May Flora and Fauna.

Ahhhh… the sweet smell of the outhouse… er huh, May flowers growing in the backyard!

Show me more flowers!

The Admiral’s pet flowers growing in front of the station headquarters at Naval Air Station Tidelands LTA (Lighter than Air).

Show me flowers or showers. (Flowers would probably be easier…)

Not quite flowers but these Dogwood trees will blossom next year.

In case you are wondering Tonya was put in charge of the planting by the plant mgr and thought this would be a good time to start her tanning.

The crew is ready to do more planting.

Let’s try to see some more flowers.

Bob

The closest I can come is flour - about 100 tons of the stuff

Show me a garden

Vegetable garden.

Please show an open load as in a gondola, hopper, or flat car.

Here is a load of scrap metal, the idea is from Pele’s new book published by our excellent hosts. It simulates stainless steel scrap by cutting up a everyday pit scrubber.

Show me more loads.

How about some WI sand, which has become the “nation’s sandbox” for raw and refined “frac sand”, on it’s way to refinery before being shipped the fracing operation.

How about some loads.

A gondola load of ventilation ducting is being secured for shipment at the General Industries siding on the BRVRR. Sorry the homemade chain link fence is in the way.

How about another load?

Here’s a couple of depressed center flat car loads.

Show me some tank cars.

Here’s one of my favorite tank cars. I picked up this Staley Mfg. tank car at a flea not too long ago. It’s an oldie & apparently been kicking around awhile. How do I know? Well, the rust you see on it is not weathering that anyone did…it’s real rust! Love the look of it & I’m leaving that part of it as it is. The only thing plastic on it is the tank itself. Everything else is metal. Don’t know who made it for certain. Marked “Yugoslavia” on the underside of the frame. Someone did put knuckle couplers on it at some point, cheap ones, and they made a horrendous mess of it. They glued the gear boxes onto the frame & likewise the gearbox covers using about a quart of glue. One coupler is broken off & it’s going to be a challenge getting that glued on mess off, but I’m going to try to get some Kadee #5’s put on it.

Carl

Show me another “real oldie” piece of rolling stock.

How about these.

Show me an “old time train” please.

Old model? or model of old time train? This is both. Ca 1970 photo of AHM V&T “Genoa” 4-4-0 on a trestle made of balsa stuck together with dress pins, on a simple over-and-under figure 8 built on a layout 3 feet by 11 feet long-- and five feet high in scenery elevation differential.

Show me an old train or old layout…

Here’s an old layout, from when I was 12!

Show me another old layout!

months ago

show me a project.

I’ve finished this project!

show me an area on your layout that you want to change and tell me why.

THAT is so nicely done!

ROAR

Change? Jarrell asked about an area of the layout to change. … Hmmmm … Listen to the track inspectors:

Hank: … Bud, looks like a big problem ahead.

Bud: … Yep. That is a problem. A really big prblem.

Hank … You’d think Garry would complete his doggone layout.

Bud … I would think so. Instead, he spends his time owrking on the trains. This past week he worked on his stinking Bachmann Doodlebug.

Hank … Sometimes, I think we’ll never get past this point.

I do want to build the next section of the layout which will be to the left of the photo. This will be the final section of the layout and it will have an area of about 6’ X 16’ after going around the corner visible on the left.

Please show a bridge.

lost on page 2 in about an hour? This bridge request needs a BUMP!

Here’s a bridge (with a trestle as a bonus):

Show me fishing.
