Yea, i realized my pics got stinking small! What did I do. I sent them to shuterfly and them pasted the link…
No Plasticville there! 1115 lionel classics station and 3 156 platforms. 98 coal bunker (missing the roof) 97, and 165 crane.
Otherwise its a mess, but I can and do run trains with the kids on there.
After you have posted them to shutterfly, click on the pic to enlarge it, then get the properities. What you are posting is the thumb nail print.

I don’t have a 4X8 but the first few photos in this link show an HO layout on a door. Since 4X8 is bigger than the average door, you could do a similar plan in 027

Hey JeffPo, do you have some kind of detailed list of all the pieces you used for that layout you have there… I am redoing my 4x8 this weekend and I like that set up that you have very much, so i might try to recreate it but i just want to see that i have enough track for it before i get going…

I CHEATED AND CHANGED THE KIDS 4X6 INTO AN ALMOST 5X7. STILL IN PROGRESS

Demon09, I’ve come up with an estimate (based on my initial planning drawing) on my track usage for that layout. I can count the actual track a little later if you want.
Approximately:
32 straight track
24 curve track
2 right switches
2 left switches
2 90 degree crossings
2 bumpers
and a handful of half straights and curves (i.e. maybe 5 straight and 3 curves) to make things fit.
My layout is mainly for my kids and I to play with. I’ve done a few others, but his is the one that has lasted the longest. It’s a design that definitely gives a lot of travel on a 4x8 board. I saw a simpler design of it without the switches and spurs. I just spiced it up a bit. I have found that kids love switches and sidings. And they love lights. I’ve got lighted bumpers on the spurs. Plus my kids like to build a train of nothing but searchlight cars and a caboose!

Yeah I’ve got to say I’m basically a big kid at heart, so I was looking for the same type of thing; switches and sidings. The type of thing to do freight work on while still having a reversing loop and a mainline… Right now I have something similar set up, but its really just a large mainline going around the perimeter and a regular figure 8 in the middle. It worked well for a while, but now I have extra track and switches, and no sidings or storage tracks, and it got a bit cramped without storage sidings… Your layout brings in the best of both worlds. Thanks again.
