Yuppers… Ebay works… I think allelectronics.com has some too…

Is anyone else using the “paintable” plastic/rubber insulation? I am and I love it (especially when I forget to put on that darn shrink tubing prior to soldering!.. I use a small paintbrush and it goes on real nice and seems to last…?

Are you talking about liquid eletrical tape? Ive actually went the other way. I love heat shrink tubing as it makes for a neater install. I find the liquid stuff very messy.

David B

Yes, I mean the liquid electric tape. And yes, VERY messy if you use the HUGE brush they include. I use an old 2mm or so brush and paint it on… it has worked well so far…

Brian

Fair enough.

I picked up a can in the local Big Box home improvement center, and it has seen use. Looks like white liquid latex, and the brush is on the bottom of the can’s screw cap. Can’t beat that for convenience!

Thanks to my wiring technique (lots of terminals, not many solder joints) I haven’t used much shrink tubing.

Digikey Electronics. Here;'s the URL to heat shrink tubing in their catalog.

They have 4 pages of it.

My LHS has it. It’s in a little package, and there isn’t much, but probably all I’ll need for a while. I just ran out, so that’s another stalled project on the workbench.

I believe I got some at accurate lighting when I bought a Helix Humper replacement motor. It came in 36" lengths & IIRC was very affordable. I’ve also used the liquid electrical tape & it works very well in tight spots. I usually solder my rail pickup wire straight to the metal under the sideframes that picks up electricity from the wheel bearings. I use the liquid tape on these solder joints to prevent any thing from touching the frame.

All Electronics in Van Nuys, California, has shrink tubing in 4 foot long sections for $1.15 for 3/64" diameter, or $1.20 each for the 1/16" size.

Other sizes are available up to 1.5 inch.

Was just at Loews picking up some wire ties, and noticed that they carry shrink tubing in assortment and standard size packs. I believe they were about $2.50-3.00 ea.
