Silver Paint Question: Acryllic or Laquer

Need some advice on possibly using silver acryllic paint. I’ve tended to use Floquil for silver in the past as I believed that the suspension of pigments is better. However, over the last few months I’ve miograted to water based paints due to ease of cleanup and no spray booth. I’m touching up the roof of a Burlinton E unit after adding details and was thinking about using acryllic versus laquer. Before I take this plunge, what are your thought on how the acryllic silver works and looks?

Thanks

Ricky

I have used acrylic silver paints with fairly good results. Just be sure to mix it well.

I have had good results with Polyscale ATSF Silver, Steel & Aluminum. Stir well and frequently.

Hi Ricky, I am new at this but have managed to document several trials and errors of many things while building my layout.

I used the Testors airbrush and the Poly Scale pain, Water base acrylic. I sprayed some Poly Scale paint on a tin building using the color of ‘Stainless Steel’, it had a shine to it. So much I came back with a paint brush and mixed the stainless steel with the grimmy black to tone it down a bit.

Adding the black here and there, but kept in mind that dirt morning dew and rain all have some downward action, so I feathered the grimmy black with the stainless steel … to tone it all down.

But that wasn’t enough, it was still way too much shine for a tin building. So then, with a paint brush, mixed the stainless steel with the rust and painted accordingly and anywhere a shine was a bit much.

From this… to this.

Keep it mixed well and you shouldn’t have aq problem.

Thanks for the replies, I will go ahead and use the acryllic. It should be a fairly quick job as I’m just touching up but may need to do teh entire roof if it doesn’t blend well.

Keith, nice touch on the building, thanks for sharing.
