Silverton Central track plan/sketch

Back in the middle to late 90’s, a track plan was published in MR for a Silverton Central layout. If memory serves, it was a 4 x 8 HO plan. Does anybody remember it? I have been through all my back issues, but can not locate it. Can anybody point me to the issue which contained this plan? Thank you. kent

PRR.

I tried the Track Plan Data Base for MR AND NO LUCK…In order for that to be useful,in a search, you would need, the month and year,of the issue,Sorry can’t help you, maybe someone else can…

Good Luck,

Frank

kent,

It’s not quite as your remrmber, but I found this in the MR Track Plan database:

Frank & Mike,

Thank you for trying. That is not the plan. I had gone through the track plan database, but I think this plan predates the 1998’s starting point. The one I remember was a folded dog bone with a figure 8 at the mountain top. Had a small mine on the mountain, looped down to the bottom land to join a mainline leg, and a little bit of switching at a lowland mine/tipple.

I guess I will just keep looking through my back issues… I know it is there somewhere.

thanks. kent

I found this, might be something there…

Hi Kent

the Cactus Valley by Dave Frary from the dec '98 issue does come close to your description.

You’ll find it in the database.

Paul.

Kent,

When I used the MR.DataBase,I started,Jan,1990 and randomly, selected, about 4months,in that year. I did that, until,I got to 1993… Then I started,Jan 1994 and went through, every month, until Dec.1996,with no luck…I gave up at that point,it is time consuming, plus my fingers, told me it was time to quit, haha…It’s quite possible, that I could have missed it when I tried it randomly… Too bad you don’t have the month and year, but then again,If you did,you can find it,on your own…

Good Luck To You…

Cheers,

Frank

I’m pretty positive this layout is in Lin Westcott’s original 101 track plans book, and it goes way back farther than the 1990’s, I remember this book back in the 70’s.

I recently got a copy of this book and I remember this layout because I thought it could be re-scaled to G for a compact outdoor layout.

Just checked my copy of this book - no. it is not in there.

I’ll have to check my copy, I’m pretty sure the layout the OP is describing is the same one I am thinking about.

Group,

I STRUCK PAY DIRT !!!

I found the plan. A few things got mixed-up in my (old) memory… It is not the Silverton Central but the Silver City Central. It is not an HO layout, but an N layout. It is not a 4x8 but a 3.5x8…

December 1994 MR issue, pages 120, 121, 122. Design by Jim Kelly.

I paged past it two or three time in the past few weeks while searching my back issues.

Thanks to all that jumped in with a helping hand

kent

Well the plan in 101 plans was #35: Denver & South Park RR for a 4x8.

Its similar to the description by the OP, glad you found the one you were looking for.

hi gentlemen,

the link to the Silver City does not work properly, though when you google “Silver city central+modelrailroad” you’ll find the plan and some neat drawings.

However with 10" radii and grades up to 5% it’s not an easy starter layout.

Paul

Kent,

You deserve,'‘A beating,’'LOL,Glad you found it!!! It’s fun getting old, ain’t it??

Cheers,

Frank
