Simple Tortoise Question

I’m dumping my Atlas twin coil machines and going all Tortoise. Is it common practice to snip off the little arm that extends on Atlas turnouts when using with a Tortoise? (The arm with 2 holes used to accept the lever on the twin coil). How far back can it be cut without damage to the turnout? Thanks for the help.

i would trim it so that is about the same as the ties in length as least thats what I did with the ones that I used.

Alternate use for those holes is to move a position signal for the turnout. Took a Caboose and removed the guts so it just slides back and forth and rotates the target. Just an Idea.

George, sounds like you’re onto a cool idea there, but I’m not quite following. What kind of “Caboose” are you talking about?

I think he was referring to Caboose Industries ground throws with signal targets.
