Single-track or double-track?????

I choose double track. I was mildly surprised when I saw the poll had the double track ahead of single track. I got the impression from reading the forum that most prefered the single with passing sidings. I like a double track because I run my RR by myself and like to have activity on the mains while I switch at local industries or yards etc. My layout is a 14 X 9ish around the wall. If I only had a single main w/p/sidings I would only be able to run one train at at time and constantly monitor train activity. So for my situation a double main doubles the fun[:D]

For whats its worth,

I model my freelanced railroad, the Kiva Valley. Itsa small reginal line, that in reality, would never have DT for its lines. I do run operations on it, snd yes, single track does add to the challenge. problem is, sometimes I dont want a challenge. I just came from work and left the challenges there and I just want to run trains… and noithing beats fun train runnin’… then full Double Track Main. I understand the inside line will be tight, but then if you have curve issues, just run it on the outside and use the inner for local work and short power.

Quite a few times, i will load a big ole string and run it around while I work off the inner with a road switcher or something, just adds to the fun. Good luck.

That’s kinda what i was thinking. i could Run 2 long trains or a long one on the outside while i switch the yard and industrie via the inside track.

I like double mainlines with crossovers, the reason being is that trains running in oposite positions look great, another reason is that i can keep one or two trains running all the time while switching from the other main leaving no fouling problems from an oncoming train…one more reason is that sidings and spurs are easier to switch cars on if they are facing the right direction to switch on to in relation to the direction of the train on that mainline…chuck

EXACTLY! run a train on the outside and switch yards via the inside. Ok I’ll double track[:D]
