Sliding Shoes & Gargraves Track

Does anyone have a solution to the problem of derailing post war sliding shoe operating cars running thru Gargraves switches? I have glued up the shoes and it stops the derailing but then the car will not operate on an RCS. Is there a way to solve both issues?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

Couple of options, but I don’t think you will like either.

1 - get rid of the switches

2 - get rid of the gargraves track

I had a similar issue with running my prewar trains through gargraves style track and first removed my switches. 20 years later, I got rid of the gargraves track and went back to tubular. Still don’t have any switches on the layout.

That’s just ludicrous. There are dozens of options. The folks here are much more inventive, creative, and persistent than you surmise.

Instead of discarding anything, work for a solution… like… do a Google search for something like “Shoe On Tinplate Truck Catching” and do some real research - this is fixable.

[tup] [tup] [yeah]

Actually the shoes even caught on Lionel switches. One solution was to put a longer bevel on the shoe to guide it up and over the frog.
