Slow Site?

I’m just curious. I’ve been finding this site to be extremely slow. I will wait as much as 3-4 minutes for a new page to fully appear, before I can scroll down to view it all. I waited about a minute (or two) just to be able to type this post. Is it my PC or is this site just very slow lately? Have others experienced the same thing? Thanks.

There are many issues in what it takes to download a site. Not all of the content comes from the same server. Advertizing comes from a third party server elsewhere. Photos come from other servers. If you are looking at photos that I have posted they are being delivered to you by my server, sitting right next to me here in my office. Yes, we got fiber optic connections, but sometime the server is thinking about something else instead of you.

Most of the problems you experience come from the ad sites however. Depending on what ad blocks you have turned on, what your anti-virus services are doing, you may find that the delays are being caused on your side of the connection: Your computer is waiting for a reply from a site that you have blocked.

When this happens, try pressing the F5 key. That will frequently bring things right up.

Last night it was slow for me. Normally it takes just a few seconds for a page to load, thirty seconds at the longest. Must be you PC.

Could also be your browser. Internet Explorer has gotten to be terrible any more. I switched to Google Chrome some time ago, and sites that used to be really laggy, now just pop right up !

Mark.

Yep, I had the same problem with Inexcusable Explorer beginning with Version 7. Slow loads, crashes, losing posts. That stopped when I switched to Firefox.Just out of curiosity I looked at IE9 when I got Win8. Almost immediately it started losing pages, dropping tabs, etc. Friends tell me IE10 is just as bad.

Flash is really getting intrusive. One of the things I like about Firefox is the ease of adding on flash blockers and ad blockers.

In order for Flash to run, I have to click on the F symbol. Unless it is a video I wish to view, I never do. One of my local news paper sites is so bad, at work it is almost non viewable until the animation runs its course.

I agree completely about IE.

It also has a lot to do with how many programs you are running at the same time…Also check your hard drive space,a lot of internet connections and your PC have temporary files stored on it that take up a lot of space and are not necessary, you may go into your PC and look them up and remove all you don’t need, you will notice, your PC,speed up a lot after doing so,and any files stored there, they should show you a date when you last used them, sometimes, rarely last time used 2006 and so on…Remove them…

Cheers,

Frank

I know it’s fashionable to denigrate Internet Explorer, sometimes even childishly distorting it’s name, but I use IE10 and it works just fine. It is not slow and it doesn’t lose tabs.

My anti virus program, Trend Micro Titanium, scans my computer once a week. It usually removes a couple hundred cookies and temporary internet files during that scan. The worst offenders seem to be the two newspapers I read on line.

This website loads just fine most of the time. The slowest task is backing up to an earlier page in the recent discussions search.

My experience is the same as Dave’s except that I use McAfee. It scans real time in addition to a weekly full scan.

IE 10 works for me.

For some IE works, for some it doesn’t. I use AVG 2014. It does a daily scan that includes tracking cookies.

OK, thanks, guys. This all suggests that the problem is most likely my browser and/or having to do with my antivirus software. I will check it out.
