I am working on a ho scale, unpowered, downhill, runaway, mine car, layout. I need a small, but long (5ft) bicycle type chain to pull the unpowered car back up to the top of the layout. Does anyone have any sugestions on where I can find a chain that would meet my needs? The lift will work the same as a rollercoaster lift.
I would say your local big box hardware store. They may not sell a long enough chain for your needs, but you can always put a few together.
You might try the Yellow Pages for a store that only sell Bearings and Belts, They would have the specs on all pitches of chain.
Perhaps even a Clock Repair shop, I think I remember small chain on a few old grandfather clock for the counterweight ?..John
like suggested before ,you might fine them at wally world etc. ? probably have to buy a couple and link them together?

Some jewelry stores sell bulk junk jewelry chain that can be purchased by the foot or even a full reel of 100 feet. Also check your local flea markets and Wal-mart, K-mart, etc.
Grandt Line makes a delrin chain in their drive product line. Walthers 2006 cat page 853. Cost is $8.25 for 6" (yes 6 inches). 1/4" pitch steel bike chain is about $10.00 per foot at industrical supply houses. All Nation also used derlin chain in their “O” guage diesel power trucks.
