I found a trio of banged up Amtrak Superliners on flatcars on the head end of NS 330 this morning. Anyone know where these came from? (FL for sure, but what derailment) My guess is the Autotrain derailment from a couple of years ago. The cars have already been gutted, and have obviously been left out in the sunlight for a while…the paint has faded badly.
…What a shame, these cars and no doubt others could have been out here to Beech Grove repair facilities being rebuilt and supplying perhaps enough to equip another route around the system someplace. But of course no budget money available to do all of the above.
Thanks for the link! It’s amazing how many of these cars have been derailed (or burned up) over the years. From the looks of it, the autotrain derailment claimed the most.
Amtrak has 412 Superliners in service now, they did have 479 Superliners Cars at one time. Amtrak Needs a Brand New Order of Superliners Cars about 500 to 550 New Cars Now. The Superliners 1 Cars are 26 or 27 Years old and Superliners 2 are 11 Years old now. Sale them Old Cars to Steel Mill and make Money off of them.[2c]
