I found my Dads old Lionel train a few weeks ago and am now trying to find smoke pellets that are resonably priced, can anyone help me? I dont know if it makes a difference but the engine is a #2026 I think he got it when he was about 12 so it is from around 1952. I saw that there are conversion kits for the liquid smoke, but I really dont want to tear the engin apart to do something like that, I want to make sure my kids can see and maybe run their Granfathers old train around the track a few times…also are their places that I can find the old cars that are in good shape, my wife told me that I can make a room in the house to make a little town but I only have the tenderbox, a white Baby Ruth box car, a car that I guess would have been a coal car, and then finally the caboose. Any help would be great! [:D]
www.ToytrainsUnlimited.com makes reproduction pellets. They smell and smoke just like the orginals.
You can buy new smoke pellets. No need to look for old ones. I recently came across an almost full bottle of them in an antique store for $3.00. Haven’t tried them yet. But you can use smoke fluid as well. I have a late 1940’s 2025 which used pellets as well. I’m currently running it with 3-4 drops of smoke fluid.
Try on-line auctions for older Lionel. Absolutely everything Lionel ever made turns up there. Train shows are also a good place to buy vintage stuff and just have a good time in general. Look up Greenberg train shows on the web and see when one will be held in your area.

Just so you will know. You do not have to use pellets. About 4 or 5 drops of smoke fluid will work. Have not used pellets in my post wars in years. I do occassionaly check the smoke units to insure the air hole is open in the chamber so the piston can push air through it. I do this when I take them down and do a lube and maintenance on them. Others are doing the same.
