Smoking Diesel

I seem (in the deep dark recesses of my mind) to remember seeing an ad for a diesel locomotive that smoked. It was white not dark smoke but at least it smoked. I thought it was a BLI but the website does not show a diesel with a smoke unit.

I am now in a position to purchase the unit (I believe it was an F unit) but I cannot find it. Anyone know what I am talking about??[banghead]

I remember visiting a hobby shop in Tulsa, OK that had smoke fluid that smelled like diesel exhaust. I never gave much thought after of who made it or anything else.

I have an old two motor Bachmann 70 tonner that smoked like crazy when I tested it… must get round to finding out why. [:(!]

To answer the question… if you can find space inside the diesel all you need is the same sort of smoke unit you would use in a steamer. Instead of trying to achieve puffs of smoke you might then add some sort of circuit so that the diesel only smokes as it starts to work hard. I think that this is something to do with the amps being drawn. I know that it can be done because I’ve seen it in an 0 Gauge Class 47 here in the UK. In fact, with the extra space available, the odeller had added all sorts of tricks like a second smoke unit and a fan to really blast the smoke out when the loco really dug deep.

The only hard thing would be to get smoke black enough for an Alco [(-D]
