It looks like a scheme run by LIONEL on an ACF Center Flow 2-Bay Covered Hopper.

Wow somebody has some time on thier hands.[:-^]
is an understatement…
Wow, that car must have been somewhere for quite a while for someone to have done that… Unless of course, it was more than one person.
I can’t believe they took the time to paint the car no., load limit and light weight on there…
Taggers like this aren’t dumb. Most realize that if they leave the reporting markings visible, thier “art” will untouched longer.
Nick
That ain’t no regular “tagger.” The majority of taggers don’t draw anywhere this good. Somebodyf find that tagger and give him or her an art academy scholarship! [;)]
OR a more appropriate canvas.
Agreed.
I dont know what to make of this item… but it is good. Very good. I dont accept Grafitti as it is pollution (And marks of different Gangs in urban areas) but this is well done.
Evidently shipping by rail is nowhere near as fast as by truck because these rolling stock sit for SO long.
Somebody either spent a hell of a lot on spray paint or stole a ton from some store…however you gotta give them an “A” for talented art work.
Someone does need to get that person a piece of canvas.
As much as I don’t condone grafitti, especially on rail cars, this is a piece of art!!
(person (s) painted out/over important data)
Wonder if they can do that well in a jail cell, as that’s where they belong.
(Chris, I agree, what are “rail officials” going to do without important info.?)
Most tagged cars I see do appear to have the car info. painted somewhere else or have been painted around.
quite Smurfy
possibly even smurfirific!
Some railroad should offer its “canvasses” to artists like this person/group. Something interesting for people to watch while waiting for trains to pass at crossings. Puts railroads in a better light.
Painting adorable animated characters on Hazardous Chemical Cars might be a good way to get people to forget about what is in the cars.
Andrew
Doesn’t matter if it is cute, adorable, brilliant, or outstanding “art”, it is still vandalism to put paint on somebody else’s property.
Allowing one person to do it, just encourages the next.
I’ll agree with “generic” grafitti being outright vandalism, but SOME railroad grafitti has become a legitimate part of both history and culture, as can be seen here:
It is trespassing and defacing property according to many railroad police officers and judges to paint freight cars that you do not own.
If these Taggers would like to help the railroads they should paint better reporting marks on the GNRR Boxcars. The GNRR Boxcars all have reporting marks and road numbers that are low contrast, too narrow, and too small. The GNRR managers needs to hire some of these taggers, to make them do worthwile work.
Andrew
Good idea, but after giving this some thought I believe it would end up like inviting a kid to have as many “legal” cookies from the otherwise off limits cookie jar. That is, when taking cookie is “illegal” then they want that cookie even more. In other words, tagging a railroad car when it is illegal provides the tagger with most of his/her excitement and he/she would be much less interested in tagging a car if it were provided by the railroad legally.
