Snacks to model railroad with?

Hi all,

Just wondering, do you snack when you’re working on the railroad/workbench, and what do you snack on?

Cheers,

tbdanny

Anything that leaves lots of crumbs. As a matter of fact, I like to eat saltine crackers like a squirrel while leaning over the layout.

Seriously, I do not think I have every taken a snack to my layout.

No snacks in the layout room. I have no desire to make it attractive to critters. However, since this is the dessicated desert, I do keep a water bottle handy.

When at my all-purpose workstation in the climate controlled part of the house I usually have some kind of salty snack material immediately available - pretzels, or Japanese rice cookies. The drink is more likely to be carbonated, but low or no calorie.

Let me rephrase the question;

“What do you snack on, if you do, while working on model-railroad related projects?”

My favourite right now is Chilli & Lime covered cashew nuts with Sprite Zero. But dark Rum with Coke Zero and Ice for after modeling experiences latter on in the night.

Kind of a strange question to be asking grown men though - probably just as strange repsonding to it.

Indeed it is a strange question…

But,what the hey…Sounds like a fun thing.[(-D]

My main “snack” is a cup of coffee or a diet Pepsi or Coke-the choice depends on this week’s Coke or Pepsi sale at the grocery…

Coffee in the morning, Dr Pepper or a beer in the afternoon.

The trouble with snacks and model railroading is that all the good ones are either salty or greasy. Since I’m on meds for both high blood pressure and cholesterol, I should avoid those on medical grounds. I don’t, of course. But, I do avoid them to keep my trains and throttles clean.

And, of course, there’s no room on my workbench downstairs for a bag of chips, or anything else.

Glass of water. No snacks while building kits or installing decoders. #1 I do not want to get greasy fingerprints on my models, #2 I do not want to be eating residue from glues and solder. Even if I was building a paper building with Elmer’s glue (no toxicity issues), I wouldn’t be eating anything because of the greasy fingerprint issue.

I take a glass of water with me to the basement. If I’m painting, the glass goes on the small workbench by the door while I work at the large workbench. Don’t want to dip the brush in the wrong glass. [xx(]

I don’t eat while working on the layout or a model. I keep a glass of unsweet ice tea near by.

Enjoy

Since my layout is climate controlled and is as critter proof as anywhere else in the house, snacks are not forbidden.

Nacho Cheese Doritos dipped in Pimento Cheese, with Coke Zero, to drink is my all time favorite Model Railroading snack starting back in the 1970’s. ( Diet Coke then Coke Zero took the place of regular Coke when the waistline started expanding noticeably. [:I] )

There was many a time when I spilled some food or beverage over what I was doing on my layout at that moment, so I now stay away from eating and drinking while w*rking on a layout. I do have a frequent break to have a coffee and, I must admit, a cigarette, up until January this year. Luckily, that habit is gone now… [swg]

I normally take a glass of sweet tea. No snacks, but maybe I should. I’ve known to spill sometimes [:-^].

Sardines and apple sauce.

A Sun-Drop and oatmeal cake.

No snacks cause I am always too busy to eat. I usually have a bottle of water or a can of ginger ale handy.

A good, rich, dark Vienna Roast coffee in a covered mug.

Then, if I get it right, I celebrate with a nice, tart, Czech Pilsner, after.

Maybe a large mug of coffee. If I want any thing more I will take a break and walk to the kitchen, open the fridge or cabinets, stare for a few seconds then pick something. When done eating or drinking I will then go back to the train/garage room. Then stare at the layout and try and figure out what to do next. It may or may not be the same as I was doing.

Dorito Bag. Just pull a chip and the crumbs stay in the bag. Just lick your fingers before touching the throttle.

Prefer Cool Ranch flavored doritoes

My personal favorite snack is a Monster energy drink (the Assault and M-80 flavors are the best, in my opinion). Course, they’re $2.29 per can at the gas station. So usually either water or whatever soda we have. also, Goldfish, pretzels, etc. are good snacks. When painting or working with anything I don’t want to ingest (like weathering powders or plastic cement), I typically don’t eat though.
