All we’ve been getting up in NY so far this season is teasers…A dusting to an inch at a time, and a couple of storms where it snowed 2 inches then changed to freezing rain or rain and left an inch or so of compacted slop which then refroze. This weekend, may be a larger storm in the Northeast if eerything pans out like they say it will. Dave Williams http://groups.yahoo.com/group/nsaltoonajohnstown
I grew up in Chicago, where 6 inches and zero degrees is thought of as only a routine inconvenience. A common story that would appear in the local papers during cold-snaps was the havoc caused by frozen switches. After I moved to NYC it was a source of great amusement to see how panicked New Yorkers became after a mere 1/2 inch. More dangerous is that the drivers here don’t realize that you have to drive completely differently. A suprisingly large number of inhabitants in NYC are immigrants from southern climes which don’t get cold weather.
We got quite a bit of snow today (and more’s on the way!) I’d like to point out one thing to all you drivers: Slow /= (does not equal) Safe Yes, it is safer going slow, but there’s more to being safe than just going slow. You need to turn the headlights on, make sure you’ve got washer fluid in the tank (and not the trunk) and pay close attention to not only the cars around you but the condition of the road. If you notice when you’re starting to lose traction you know to slow down before you actually do lose traction.
It means plow time for me when it snows…I can get my old Flatfender Willys Jeep out and pu***hat white stuff…saying maybe 6 inches or more out my way this weekend. Dave Williams http://groups.yahoo.com/group/nsaltoonajohnstown
Here in Northern KY tonight (Thursday)we are expecting 3-5 inches of snow.
On Saturday they are saying right now 3-5 more. It’s supposed to start out as snow, then possible rain, then possible freezing rain/sleet, then back to snow.
But they said if the storm track changes will determine the amount and what it all could be.
So you can say that we are headed to Wal-Mart on Friday for groceries, and to get some kerosene if we lose electric if it would be freezing rain (again!!!).
Finally! Somewhere besides here getting the snow. We had snow for almost 2 weeks straight! but its almost all gone now it was t-shirt weather today! I will snow like crazy soon though, We always get a thaw then a Huge snow storm. I think that poor winter drivers should spend a winter here, First it rains, Then it freezes(black Ice), Then it snows and covers it all up. Black ice is the worst thing about winter driving you dont see it until it is too late to react, making it VERY dangerous. Sometimes the winds are enough to blow you off the road. Winters in Wyoming are horrible
…Snow and more of it is on the way for we here in central Indiana. Received about 4" of the stuff yesterday and more coming starting tonight to perhaps 8 to 10" depends how the Alberta Clipper tracks…And it’s headed southeast and then swinging up northeast and probably across eastern Pa, and on up over NY and New England before it’s finished…This pattern has been in place too long now…We’ve had a bit over 19" so far this season here and our avg. total for a season is about 27"…Sun is shining today but tonight it all changes again…
Have winter tires on the S-10 and sand bags at the very rear and it has positraction but one really has to be careful. Wide tires are for sure not the best for snow. And it has 8" width wheels.
