As I promised in my Christmas Card thread, here are some of my favorite shots from the Santa Train out at the Colorado Railroad Museum last Sunday. The temps were in the single digits and the wind chill was around -15ºF. I guess that’s not too bad considering that the low at the airport was -19ºF yesterday!
Working on thawing stuff around the locomotive using a line from the steam dome.
If there’s anything more aesthetically pleasing than a steam locomotive on a cold day, I don’t know what it is!
Low Angle Shot of #346
Dismounting his Trusty Steed
This is very similar to the shot I did last year, but I used a little lower camera angle to include more of the turntable in this shot. I think I like it more.
Wide angle shot of above.
I had a little fun with this one. I tried to give it an old school feel…like an old faded print. I also added a hefty bit of vignetting to mimick the look that the old Argus C3 “Brick” gave thousands of photographers (because of the shutter on the C3, skies often ended up vignetted like this).
Ed, there’s got to be someone somewhere who doesn’t enjoy shots like these. Maybe Jim Carrey could play him in a movie?
Chris, I really liked this bunch, especially the 3/4 shot of the 346 on the table. What motion and emotion the steam adds to the shot.
Oh, and I think I’ll quit whining about our daytime drop into the low fifties earlier this week. I feel colder just looking at your pictures, sort of like watching Fargo or reading Last of the Breed by Louis L’Amour.
