Not to make light of it - Amtrak Snow Plows beat highway snow plows.

Backing onto a railroad crossing???

That sucks. Sounds like a simple tragic accident.

Quite possibly the driver was concentrating on plowing the road, a task probably made more complex in the vicinity of the grade crossing. When very focussed on one task, it becomes easy to forget about other outside influences. More than one grader operator working on a gravel road has been killed or injured at a grade crossing.

Accident report from a similar crossing accident on CN between Lloydminister and North Battleford, SK. The driver was killed in this one too.

… and sadly the plow driver probably screwed-up, not Amtrak.

Target fixation. Tell pilots about it![}:)]
