So, Is Norfolk Southern the Ugly Step-sister of the Train World?

I don’t claim to be an expert on Trains Magazine. I never even picked one up before last week. But yesterday I read a profile of the Dash 9. NS was not mentioned. There could have been a NS Dash 9 four panel Centerfold 3 months in a row after that, and I would not have been the wiser.

I found the article again. It was in the March 2004.

Unfortunately CR blue doesn’t come in a paint can.

Dash 9s are a problem in HO too. Kato made some but they are impossible to find now. Athearn is the only company making them right now and without sound. I’d love to see Atlas make Dask 9s. I suggested it a few weeks ago. With the number of them in service, sales shouldn’t be an issue.

Salecoat 640-10758 or Salecoat II 640-20756, both 6 oz spray cans of Conrail Blue.

I was bidding on a Dash-9 on eBay. I didn’t even come close. It went for $110. There were SD-70’s and SD-60’s by the same guy. They sold in the $60’s.

There’s definitely a market here.

In HO there is no shortage of NS SD40-2s, 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s, as well as Dash 8s. But Dash 9s, it is very sparse.

I would love an NS Dash 9 in HO, but the fact that the Kato’s come with a nose headlight drives me crazy!

My layout is modern Union Pacific but I really do like NS engines and as you stated Spacemouse it is very hard to find engines for them for some crazy reason. I always do a search but not many locos come up on Ebay. You do a search for UP and hundreds of listings come up but if you do it for NS only a few dozen. Why is that? These engines are surely a minority in the trainworld. The lack of engines available may be because of a race thing and they are black as you said. LOL

Athearn makes a NS C44-9W but,it has a nose headlight! [:O]
