I had some friends over last night and we got my benchwork up. My layout is going to be 12x24, between 2 feet and 6 feet wide is some sections. It only took a few hours to put up. It’s amazing what you can do when you have people around you that know what they are doing. I’m off to the hobby shop today to buy track and switches.
Good luck with your project. Starting a new layout is always an exciting time. It would be nice if you kept us all informed on your progress. A few photos would be enlightening as well.
Again, good luck.
We have the Virginian Build thread…how about the ONR Fan Layout Build thread…
Might that last for few years…?
Tracks be nice, but on a layout that size, now be the time to put the wires in first, especially if you are using DC with blocks. Also run you aux cables first. LION uses 50 conductor cables (25 pr Cat-3), pricy but worth it. Visit a telephone installation company, see what scraps they can sell you.
Terminal Blocks are cheap enough, put them about every ten or fifteen feet, then the rest of the wiring is a snap!
LION is even too cheap to buy terminal blocks, him just sticks some nails in a board and solders everything together.
This will sure make wiring and documenting your layout a lot simpler!

I do plan on taking pictures as it gets built. I’ve got a bunch taken when we were building the benchwork. Trust me this is going to be a very long process. My friend TA462 told me something as we were building the benchwork that stuck in my mind. It’s not a race so go slow and plan ahead. It will be DCC controlled, I’m picking up my Digitrax Super Chief today too. My poor bank account, lol.
