I knew this one right off the bat, but something looks way different as far as the shop building goes. They must have put corigated siding on it or something. It looks a lot more modern now.
How did you get that angle? did you climb up on the sanding/fueling racks ?
Without looking at my notes, it was about 1986. The enginehouse was sided with wood siding. Yes, climbed as I remembered it, the sanding facility on the furling rack.
I sort of put this one here for you, thought maybe you and your dad may hove visited this place!

Thank, you made it too easy for me. I do visit the place when I am I K-falls. It’s hard not to as it’s right next to wallmart. The last time I was there was less than a year ago.
When I was in Alturas I would go over to Dorris quite often. Dorris is right below the state line on US97, and right at the south portal of the tunnel on the UP line. Going into K-falls from Dorris takes you right past the BNSF yard.
It’s a trip how things have changed over the years around here. When I first came to the area in 81’ the Modoc line was the busier line to the southeast with 2-3 trains each way per day and the BN highline was rather dead with only 1 train each way at the most.
And back then it connected with the Western Pacific down in Beiber. Then there was also thee OC&E out to Bly.
Now the Modoc is no longer a through route, it only sees a weekly turn to Alturas. The OC&E is long gone. And the Highline is a major route now, seeing 5-7 trains each way daily.

A friend of mine used to live about 1/4 mile directly behind where this picture was taken. I spent a week there helping him rebuild an engine. That was the year they called it quits. He got irritated because every day when the train left for K-falls we would have to stop what we were diong so I could go watch it leave town(Beatty). This picture brings back a few memories.
