Okay this comes from a friend so one of the circus trains will be stopping in willard on csx at noon then it is scheduled to be in garrett indiana by 3.not sure when its due in Chicago. Its a busy day for me today I will try to see it.hopefully others can for sure.
Have a question, tho. Since Amtrak runs over class 1’s tracks and sometimes get shunted aside for the home company trains, what about Circus Trains? Do they give them the same consideration as Amtrak or do they rate a little higher on the consideration chain?
This question reminded me of a funny situation back in the late 60’s. Royal American Shows of Sarasota FL used to work the 5 big exposition/carnivals in western Canada each summer. In those days the shows ran from Monday noon to the following Saturday midnight. Then RAS would load everything back onto their three trains and barrel off to the next show to get set up. The timing on these jobs was intense.
On to the story. One summer there was a railway strike by one of the running trades that only lasted a short time. But it was over the weekend when RAS had to move from Edmonton AB to Regina SK. They actually talked to all the other unions and got the railway in question (I don’t remember CN or CP) to agree to go back to work long enough to get those three trains over the road. The public relations backlash would have been a nightmare none of them were prepared to endure! I have never heard of anything like that ever happening since.
