Have you ever setup a gathering of hundreds in a park or a street brawl in front of a bar. Possibly a politician giving a speech. How about some Greenpeace protesters trying to block a train carrying nuclear waste?
No, my layout is set in the 1950’s. The only “mob” I remember is being with thousands of kids outside the Brooklyn Paramout theater prior to a Rock&Roll show. Joe
The closest I have are a handful of oldtimers hanging in front of a bar with drink, one with a big sub.
We are just starting to add a larger population to the Jumijo. A few at a time here and there. So far the biggest (and most diverse) crowd can be seen at the train station waiting on the next train. There is also a crowd gathering to eat at Dick’s Diner, just down the street. Still another bunch can be found at the new playground, the site of the former forestry ranger’s log cabin. My family can be seen in miniature picking out a Halloween pumpkin at John’s Farm. The black Caddy convertible in the parking lot is ours!
Smaller details are now showing up on our layout, like fire hydrants, dogs, light poles, wooden fences, and weathered vehicles. A layout is never truly finished.
Jim
Jim is right. I’m amazed at what I notice when I look again. There’s always something to improve or change - for me, that’s much of the fun. My layout is deliberately sparsely populated - reflecting a more rural setting.
The social activites on my layout consist of friendly and wholesome activities. There is a family having a picnic and children playing at the playground with the moms watching. The one activity that most people notice is something that still goes on today. There is a nice, clean and friendly gas station on my layout and it features a long line at the ladies room.
I’ve got a couple of weddings - one where the bridal couple is outside being photographed. Another where the wedding is still going on.
Also a group of railfans taking train pictures from the viewing area at the “David P. Morgan Railroad Park”.
These folks appear to be drinking cocktails in the cockpit of a 1930’s Matthews cabin cruiser. That’s social enough for me!

Jon, what a great scene! When are you going to give us a guided photo tour of your layout? It’s long overdue!
Jim
I’ve got a small diaroma of a 1:48 scale Luke and Darth Vader lightsaber fight. There’s also a nativity set down the street.
I remember as a kid back in the late 40’s, my Lionel loop and sideing was screwed down to a bare piece of 4x8 plywood over a pool table in our unfinished basement. Scenery was your imagination. It did get populated though by hundreds. My grandmother brought a sanwich to me while I was playing with my train. I left the partially eaten sandwich on the plate on the train table. A few days later it was populated by ---- ants.!!! [(-D][(-D][:O]
I saw the movie! Black and White; I don’t remember the name, but it was pretty scary to a kid. . . .
