soldering pen to repair pc boards or make new circuits on model figures

In an old Model Railroader about 15 years ago. There was an article to use this “pen” to repair cracked pc boards. It also listed uses for making “invisible circuits” on say a switch tender or a conductor. The circuit was drawn up one side of the figure for the positive lead. Then another was drawn down the other side of the figure for the other lead to make the circuit complete. That way you could illuminate a lantern in the hands of an HO scale figure. Once painted. the circuit was invisible. I believe they used a 1.5v bulb for the illumination.

So my question is. 1- Who made the “pen”? Was it Radio Shack? I went there and they don’t know what I’m talking about.

2- What issue of MR did this article appear in?

Thanks,

I think I remember that article, but I don’t remember which year. However, maybe the following, or something similar, would work for you: http://www.mgchemicals.com/products/8420p.html

Edit: and Radio Shack does seem to have this type item listed, http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3964901#showFullReviews, but the reviews of the product go from good to very bad.

Thank you Maxman for your reply. I’ll have to give them a try.
