SOLDERING QUESTION

Hello, everyone. I have a quick question. When working on prewar and postwar engines and cars I am having difficulty getting solder to take to the solid wire that is found on these models. Is there a certain type of solder or special flux that I need to be using? Any prep instructions? Any help would be great. Thanks so much.

Daniel

The wire is probably enameled (under the insulation) or oxidized. Clean it up with steel wool or sandpaper until it shines like a new penny, the solder with a rosin (NON-corrosive) flux.

Thank you so much. How do you know if it is a non-corrosive flux or not? Are you talking about rosin core vs. acid core? Thanks again.

After you clean the wire like lonewolf said clean it also with Isopropyl Alcohol and always rosin flux on electrical.
