Some advice on a 219 Crane gear replacement

Hello:

Hoping someone knows a bit about this.

I have a 219 crane car and both the drum and boom gears appear to have been some sort of grey cast metal and both have more-or-less disintegrated. I know that replacement brass gears are available easily online. The boom one looks easy enough - but the drum one not so much.

With the cast metal gone, I’m just left with a brass shaft which has a lip on it which looks like it wouldn’t let a new gear on very easily. And then how does that gear grip the shaft?

Hoping for a but of guidance from someone who might have done this before.

Thank you!

Paul

I replaced gears on mine when I got it 4 or 5 years ago. I had never had one when i worked in the service station so this was all new to me. I recall the brass gear just press fit on the drum shaft and the boom gear came with a whole shaft with squared axle ends to fit the boom. I was able to spread the boom gently open enough to not have to disturb the boom connecting plate tabs. Hope this helps.
